I have talked a little about complimentary and alternative methods of helping deal with fear, anxiety and depression and many contemporary mindful techniques are based on practices developed centuries ago in the East. Way back then people needed help getting and staying present and focused and today we face much bigger challenges. We are overwhelmed with all the internet distractions; leisure time is almost nonexistent. The work/life balance has been knocked askew. We have all had to learn how to multitask, whether we are have cancer, are anxious, depressed, worried or fearful.
As a side note I have been reading a lot about Buddhism and it has definitely changed and challenged. Recently there has been a crossover taking place—Asian countries, such as India and China are making huge technological advances, while many Westerners are turning to Eastern mindfulness modalities to curb their technologically exacerbated stress, anxiety and depression. Some people embrace meditation practices of traditions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Sufism and Kabbalah.
